Once you hear the words skin dermatitis, immediately, eczema will come to mind. And you will instantly imagine swollen skin that is red and very itchy. While this is general knowledge, there is a lot more to having a skin condition. Surely, no one would like to experience this so you must always be aware of what can cause these things to happen to you, so you can avoid it. Skin dermatitis is not really hard to avoid, just always keep your skin clean and moisturized. But first, let us talk about the common skin dermatitis that one should avoid. First is Eczema, also known as Atopic Dermatitis.
Though very common among children, this still can happen among adults. Next is Allergic contact dermatitis, which are triggered by allergens that can cause allergic reactions on the person’s body. Lastly is Seborrheic dermatitis, which is also called as dandruff for adults, and cradle cap on babies. All these can cause inflammation, redness, and itchiness.
So how can one avoid having skin dermatitis? First of all, make sure that your skin is always hydrated and moisturized. If you know that you are sensitive to some chemicals or food, it is best to avoid them already. Also, if your skin is sensitive to fiber, avoid any types of fabric that can cause you to itch. For most of the time, avoid sweating. Take a bath daily and use moisturizing soaps. You can apply shear butter or lotions after taking a bath too. Although some say that there is no specific cause for having skin dermatitis, just be careful and avoid anything that might trigger your allergies.

What is Seborrheic Dermatitis? It is a skin condition characterized by skin flaking, scaling and drying For adults, this is called “Dandruff” while for babies, this is what you call “Cradle Cap”. This is usually seen on the scalp or takes over the entire scalp, and can also be visual in some parts of the face, the body and the creases of the arms and legs.
At first glance, this can look really disturbing like it is a disease. But seborrheic dermatitis is not as rare as you think. For adults, this mostly develops among men who are aged around thirty and older. For babies, this can be seen around three months of age. Like Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema), there has been no specific cause for this. But it is also linked to the parents passing of genes or some say it is causes by hormones.
How can seborrheic dermatitis be treated? Well, there are different seborrheic dermatitis cures for different ages. For babies, steroid creams are applied to lessen the drying and itching on their scalp. You can use a very soft toothbrush over his scalp to help loosen the scales but be very gentle, as a wound can lead to more damage for your baby. On the other hand, another seborrheic dermatitis cure for adults is to use shampoos with salicylic acid or zinc pyrithione (i.e. Head and Shoulders) for their dandruff. While using a dandruff shampoo, make sure to rub it in your scalp and leave it there for five minutes so that you’re flakes will soften. If this still doesn’t work, consult your doctor and he may prescribe you a steroid cream that you can put on your scalp as well.
